Ober-Mörlen (hau). It was the (almost) perfect warm summer evening. Around 300 people made themselves comfortable in the castle park last Saturday, setting up in smaller or larger groups on picnic blankets, on camping chairs and on the park benches all around. The wine sparkled in the glasses, delicious snacks lay on the plates. For the third time, the community had invited people to a picnic in the park.
Mayor Kristina Paulenz and the “We for our Village” initiative were delighted with the huge response and the wonderfully cheerful atmosphere.
“Thank you to all of you who made this evening unforgettable,” said Renate Sprengel on behalf of the organizers after the mayor. The band Mama Limón, in great spirits, brought a Latin American flair to the castle park, and as dusk fell, the park was illuminated in a fascinating way, conjured up by the lighting, technical and stage managers Norbert Mohr and Torben Dietz from Langenhain-Ziegenberg. In the magic of the brightly lit trees, the Latin grooves of Mama Limón were able to fully unfold their joyful effect on the young and the young at heart. Whether bobbing and clapping on the picnic blanket, dancing in the grass or having a nightcap with friends, the feeling of summer, sun, beach and party was irresistible.
Directly into the blood and into the feet
The international quartet from Darmstadt got into a good groove and took the audience to the sunny south with Spanish rumba, Latin and bossa rhythms, cumbia and a pinch of reggae. Percussionist Christian Paulus pulsed on congas and cajón, and Venezuelan guitarist Iván Rodriguez showed off his versatility. Original compositions such as “Bonita la calle” and “Zuckaina” went straight into the blood and into the feet. The radiant Spaniard Julia Ferrarese thrilled the audience with her virtuoso accordion playing and singer Nira Pumahualca from Peru with her powerful voice and stage presence.
Mama Limón had barely performed »Mil horas«, a cheerful-sounding but actually sad love story written by Andres Calamaro (»The other night I waited for you, two hours in the rain, a thousand hours like a dog…«) in the middle of their second set, when a warm summer rain began to fall in the Ober-Mörl castle park – unfortunately a little too early – and drove most of the guests away. The announced thunderstorm, however, did not materialize. The band continued to play cheerfully for those who were celebrating life and summer under the trees and with a rain dance on the lawn. At midnight the park was back in summer sleep, while the warm summer night will surely linger pleasantly in people’s hearts for a long time to come.
