This is what NC parents should know about SNAP and P-EBT payments | Univision 40 Raleigh WUVC

RALEIGH, North Carolina.- North Carolina’s food stamp program will increase for the next six months. Mayra Rangel from NC State University’s ‘More in My Basket’ program details what you need to know about this increase.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (Ncdhhs) announced an increase in the benefits of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, better known as SNAP or food stamps.

“For these families that are already receiving this benefit, there will be an increase of 15% until June 30 of this year,” Rangel said.

Families that already have the benefit will receive the increase automatically on their EBT card, but those who do not have it and wish to obtain it, must fill out a Online application or mail it to the Department of Health.

Remember that before applying for these benefits, you should consult with your lawyer if you are carrying out any immigration procedures, Rangel added. Getting food stamps could be considered a public charge.

P-EBT program funds

Due to executive orders signed last week by President Joe Biden, the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) program is expected to continue and increase by 15%. This benefit is different from food stamps and provides up to $ 5.70 per child per school day.

“The government is trying to see how it can help and I tell the families to be patient,” he said.

Although Biden has said that the P-EBT program should be increased, they have not indicated when it would take effect.
