She will portray the Queen from the 90s to 2003. Actor Jonathan Pryce will take on the role of Prince Philip, Dominic West is the new Prince Charles. Princess Diana is played by Elizabeth Debicki. It is not yet known who will play Prince William, Prince Harry, Princess Anne and Prince Andrew.
Staunton is best known in Belgium for her role as Dolores Umbridge in Harry Potter, but also starred in the Oscar-nominated 2004 film, Vera Drake.
The fifth season of the popular Netflix series about the British royal family will be on the streaming service next year. The content will be about the turbulent marriage of Charles and Diana and about the death of Princess Margaret and Princess Diana.
There will also be a sixth series, but that will be the last. Series creator Peter Morgan says he simply can’t write another season because it’s too recent and it’s not yet possible to have any perspective on what’s going on.
Olivia Colman, who played the Queen after Claire Foy, was nominated for an Emmy for the third and fourth seasons. She won a Golden Globe for the third season.
