This is what happens to your body when you wake up an hour later than usual

An hour later rise than normal can be quite stressful if it was not intended. If you have the time for it, it’s actually a nice thing. Still, sleeping an hour longer appears to have a major impact on your brain and general health in all cases.

Timing is also important

“Research shows that the timing of when you go to sleep (and get up) can be just as important as the number of hours you sleep,” says sleep expert Rose MacDowell at Bustle. Although you quickly forget the ‘panic’ of waking up too late, if you keep doing this, it can have some consequences.

Night owl

“Going to sleep late can lower your sleep schedule, making it harder for you to fall asleep the next night,” says MacDowell. When it’s time to go to bed at night, you’ll find that you have more energy than usual, which will likely keep you awake longer. If this continues for a few nights, it can be difficult to ‘reset’ your brain and get back to your old rhythm.

Effects

If you sometimes later wakes up than normal, this probably won’t affect your brain much. But if your sleep is constantly disrupted, it can cause problems over time. “If your sleep is interrupted multiple times during the night, your brain may not be as sharp as normal, causing your cognitive ability to decline,” says internist Dr. Steven Reisman. “It can negatively affect memory.” This makes you less comfortable in your own skin.

rhythm

While it may be tempting to go to bed at a different time each night and wake up around a different time each morning, it seems to be better to stick to your own sleep schedule.

“It is advisable to wake up around the same time every day. If you have a regular routine and get enough sleep, you will have more energy,” says Reisman. Sleep expert MacDowell even advises to maintain this rhythm during the weekend. “By waking up at the same time every day, you are doing your brain a big favor, as well as your overall health.”
