Eva entered the competition to come up with a new Donald Duck neighbour. She wanted a tough woman in her favourite magazine. ‘Eva Hamerslag is a carpenter’, she says. She came up with the idea because she often sees her father doing odd jobs. ‘But I wanted a woman instead of a man, because there are enough tough men around. ‘I looked at my family for her appearance. For example, she has my mother’s dreadlocks.’
Smart programmer
Eva also enjoyed making a young duck: Lex. ‘He’s also very cool, that’s why he has blue hair. He’s a smart programmer, who knows a lot about computers. But he also often does sneaky things, which his mother doesn’t notice.’ More than 7,400 people entered the competition. The new residents will be on the front page of the weekly magazine next week. They will also occasionally appear in various comic strips. Eva is very happy that she won. ‘Now I can finally tell the school tomorrow.’
