Coach Indonesian National Team U-23 Shin Tae-yong have selected 20 players for SEA Games 2021. Five foreign players, including Elkan Baggott, were included.
There are three senior players included, namely Fachruddin Aryanto, Marc Klok, and Ricky Kambuaya. Only Irfan Jaya who did not join the final squad after the Bali United player had participated in the Training Center (TC).
However, Shin Tae-yong had to drop Irfan Jaya. Because only three senior players (over 23 years old) can be registered by the team. At the 2019 SEA Games, only 2 senior players could be registered.
In addition, the names of players playing abroad are also called as Asnawi MangkualamElkan Baggott, A MaulanaWitan Sulaeman, and Saddil Ramdani.
Asnawi is actually not sure if his club, Ansan Greeners, will be released. This was revealed by the former PSM Makassar player recently. Asnawi has also returned to Ansan Greeners after the U-23 national team trial match against Daejeon Hana Citizen, Wednesday (27/4/2022).
As for Saddil, Sabah FC was permitted to do so, but he could only appear in the first match of the group phase, semifinals, and finals. Another with Elkan Baggott who has not heard since being called by TC. The tall defender just debuted with Ipswich Town in League One on April 16.
Only Pratama Arhan is from abroad and it has been confirmed that he will not participate in the SEA Games. Tokyo Verdy as Arhan’s club is reluctant to release its players outside the FIFA agenda.
Meanwhile, there are a number of debutants in the U-23 national team for the SEA Games. Some of them are Ilham Rio Fahmi, Ronaldo Joybera, Marselino Ferdinand, Muhamad Ridwan, and others.
“Alhamdulillah, I am grateful to be able to enter 20 players who will compete in the 2021 SEA Games. I am determined to give my best and am ready to work hard for Indonesia’s gold medal,” said Ilham Rio Fahmi.
The Garuda Muda squad is currently in Jakarta, they will undergo two days of training, namely April 30 and May 1 at Field B, Senayan. Next, Marc Klok and his friends will leave for Vietnam on Tuesday (3/5).
