The team discovered other factors that affect stars and their ability to maintain or regain their shape. One of them is the different masses of black holes and the different ways the stars approach them.
Each factor has a different effect on what astronomers call ‘tidal disturbances’ or the tearing of stars into bursts of gas.
This simulation is the first to be performed that combines the effects of Einstein’s general theory of relativity with a star having a realistic internal structure.
Virtual simulations like these help astronomers gain further understanding and a clearer picture of how these catastrophic interactions occur across the universe.
