Jakarta: Huawei recently received an award for one of its flagship smartphones, the P50 Pro, which was named the smartphone with the best camera. This achievement also enlivened the celebrations ahead of the 10th anniversary of the presence of the Huawei P series.
Welcoming the 10th anniversary of the Huawei P series and the launch of the Huawei P50 Pro in Indonesia in early 2022, Huawei invites the public to take a look back at the history of this smartphone line in the last decade.
1. Huawei Ascend P1 and P1s
The journey of the Huawei P series began in 2012, when Huawei released the Huawei Ascend P1 and P1s at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) conference in the United States, in January 2012.

At that time the Huawei Ascend P1s became a smartphone with the thinnest dimensions ever produced, with a thickness of 6.68 mm, while the Huawei Ascend P1 was also relatively thin with a body as thick as 7.69 mm.
2. Huawei Ascend P2
Meanwhile in 2013, to be exact in February 2013, Huawei released the Ascend P2 with a 8.4 mm thick body and comes in black and white. Huawei Ascend P2 carries a larger size, 4.7-inch screen and 13MP rear camera.
3. Huawei Ascend P6
After that in June 2013, Huawei released the Ascend P6 with a body thickness of 6.18mm, and became Huawei’s first device that carried a metal body. This smartphone is equipped with a 5MP dual front camera, an 8 MP rear camera and a 4 cm macro camera.
4. Huawei Ascend P7
On May 7, 2014, Huawei released the Ascend P7 in Paris, with a body thickness of 6.5 mm and support for 4G LTE network. The Ascend P7 comes with a metallic double-sided glass design, 8MP front camera, 13MP rear camera with Sony IMX214, an SLR camera-level independent ISP, and a 2.0 smart image processing engine.
5. Huawei P8 Lite, P8, and P8 Max
Huawei released a new product line in April 2015, including the Huawei P8 Lite, P8, and P8 Max models. This phone is the first device in the P series that does not use the Ascend name.
The Huawei P8 adopts a fully metallic design instead of a double-sided glass body like the P7. The frame is made of aluminum alloy, combined with sharp and bright edges. It boasts photographic capabilities, the Huawei P8’s innovative light graffiti mode, and a four-color RGBW sensor.
The P8’s rear camera has a 13MP resolution with a Sony IMX278 sensor and an f/2.0 aperture, and is supported by Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) technology.
6. Huawei P9 Series
Launched in April 2016, the P9 is billed as the start of a new era when it comes to smartphone photography, and is the first phone to sport two Leica lenses. The Huawei P9 has a 12MP + 20MP dual camera with an aperture of f/22.
In terms of appearance, the P9 adopts a minimalist design similar to the P8, but with a rear fingerprint sensor and a 2.5D screen.
7. Huawei P10
This smartphone, which was launched in February 2017, incorporates a large F/1.9 aperture Leica lens and is equipped with a 12MP+20MP dual rear camera system. Supported by the Kirin 960 chipset, this P series is also equipped with 4K video recording capabilities.
8. Huawei P20
The launch of the Huawei P20 series in March 2018 called Huawei marked the arrival of the multi-camera era for mobile photography. Huawei P20 still has a 20MP monochrome sensor and a 40MP color sensor, but with an 8MP telephoto lens and ISO 102400.
This smartphone is also supported by artificial intelligence (AI) technology that is able to identify 500 types of scenes and backgrounds in 19 different categories.
9. Huawei P30
This smartphone features a quad-Leica camera consisting of a 40MP Super Sensing camera, 20MP Ultra Wide Angle Lens, 8MP SuperZoom Lens, and a ToF camera. The P30 Pro also comes with the first RYYB SuperSpectrum Sensor.
Huawei P30 also comes with a periscope lens feature with 50x zoom capability and ISO 409600 sensitivity. In addition, the P30 Pro also adopts a 3D curved glass OLED screen.
10. Huawei P40
The phone, which was launched in March 2020, comes with a 1/1.28-inch CMOS sensor, and a Leica penta camera on the P40 Pro+ model, with a 50 MP Ultra Vision main lens, 40 MP Ultra Wide.
Cine Camera, ToF sensor, telephoto lens with 3x, and periscope telephoto lens with 10x optical zoom. This telephoto lens gives the P40 Pro+ zoom capability with support for up to 10x optical zoom, and a record 100x digital zoom. Huawei P40 Pro and Pro+ also come with a Quad-Curve Overflow Display.
11. Huawei P50
This line of phones released in July 2021 comes with a Dual-Matrix Camera design and is equipped with the True Chroma Shot feature, using the core capabilities of the P series such as zoom photography, night shooting, and HD images.
The phone is also powered by the new and upgraded XD Fusion Pro, introducing a primary color engine, filter system, and super dynamic range technology, to comprehensively fine-tune detail, color and dynamic range.
