KONTAN.CO.ID – LOS ANGELES. When a mother named Mayra Gomez told her 21-year-old son five months ago that she was voting for Donald Trump in Tuesday’s presidential election, the son stopped getting in touch with her.
“She specifically told me, ‘You are no longer my mother, because you voted for Trump’,” Gomez, 41, a private nursing worker in Milwaukee, told Reuters.
Their last conversation was so bitter he wasn’t sure if they could make peace, even if Trump lost the presidential election this time around.
“The damage has been done. In people’s minds, Trump is a monster. This is sad. There are people who don’t talk to me anymore, and I’m not sure that will change, “said Gomez, who is a fan of Trump’s tough policy against illegal immigrants and handling the economy.
Reuters preach, Gomez is not alone when experiencing bitter divisions in the family.

In interviews with 10 voters – five Trump supporters and five would-be supporters of Democrat Joe Biden – few were able to see the damaged personal relationships Trump had caused a full recovery, and most believed they were forever destroyed.
Throughout the nearly four years of his norm-shattering presidency, Trump has stirred strong emotions among his supporters and opponents. Many supporters admired his move to overhaul immigration, his appointment as a conservative judge, his willingness to ignore convention and his harsh rhetoric.

Democrats and other critics see the former real estate developer as a threat to American democracy, liars and racists who are mismanaging the novel coronavirus pandemic that has so far killed more than 230,000 people in the United States. Trump dismissed the designation as “fake news”.
