It’s in the news every day, but what does it actually look like? Scientists from ETH University in Lausanne, Switzerland have a first shot made from the spike protein of the Omikron variant of the Coronavirus. To this end, they used a very high-resolution electron microscope and software to display the image in a form visible to humans.
The image of the bulge is important because it can give an indication of why the virus reacts differently and not all vaccines against it equally well to protect. This is mainly due to this spike protein, which the virus uses to attach itself to human cells and to penetrate our organism.
