JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Bank Indonesia (BI) ensures service new money changer still open even though the government prohibits this Lebaran 2021 homecoming.

This certainty at the same time answers the community’s questions that arise before Eid regarding schedule for currency exchange at Bank Indonesia.

The reason is, every time Eid arrives, people often prepare money in certain denominations to be distributed to relatives. That’s why in the end questions often arise where to exchange small money.

To answer this question, BI emphasized that the new currency exchange at Bank Indonesia can be done today.

Executive Director of the Head of the BI Money Management Department, Marlison Hakim, said that the service had been open since April 12, and will continue until May 11, 2021.

“We have already opened currency exchanges, including in banks. Even if we look historically H-2 weeks before the implementation of Lebaran, many exchanges have been carried out by the public, especially in banking,” he said in a virtual press conference, Wednesday (14/4/2021).

Furthermore, Marlison Hakim explained, just like last year, money exchange services at BI cannot be done individually or retail, but can be done individually. wholesale or in groups.

Taking into account the latest Covid-19 conditions as well as aspects of public health, rupiah exchange services during the Ramadan / Idul Fitri 1442 Hijriah period are carried out through bank offices throughout Indonesia.

In its official statement, BI has synergized with banks in adding exchange service outlets to 4,608 bank office networks by 2021.

This figure increased by 23 percent compared to last year, namely 3,742 branch offices or commercial bank outlets.

Locations that open new money exchange services include 439 offices in the Jabodebek area, and 4,169 outside the Jabodebek area. The public can get exchange services at these locations from April 12 to May 11, 2021.

For people who wish to exchange money, Marlison ensures that there are no special rules that need to be followed.

“There are no conditions. The important thing is to bring the money to be exchanged,” he said.

BI itself prepares cash of Rp. 152.14 trillion to meet the needs of people throughout Indonesia during the Ramadhan / Eid al-Fitr period 1442 H.

This amount increased by 39.33 percent (yoy) compared to last year’s Rp.109.20 trillion.

This currency was dominated by denominations of Rp. 100,000 and Rp. 50,000, which amounted to Rp. 137 trillion or the equivalent of 90.07 percent, while the remainder consisted of denominations of Rp. 20,000 and below.

To ensure that the need for rupiah currency is available in sufficient quantities and quality worthy of circulation, BI coordinates with banks and Rupiah Money Processing Service Providers (PJPUR) to maintain the availability of money at cash withdrawal machines (ATMs) and deposit-withdraw machines (Cash Recycling Machine).

BI also opens the opportunity for the public to get 75,000 Indonesian Independence Day (UPK 75 RI) or special edition money of IDR 75,000.

The location for the Rp. 75,000 special edition currency exchange can be done through exchanges in all BI offices and bank office networks.

UPK 75 Tahun RI can be used for transactions and sharing during the Ramadan period. The public can place an exchange order through the PINTAR exchange application (https://pintar.bi.go.id).

The condition is that you only need to use 1 KTP to exchange a maximum of 100 (pieces) UPK 75 Tahun RI every day and can be repeated the next day.
