On October 8, the names of the governor of Baja California Marina del Pilar and the host Gustavo Macalpin were a trend on social networks, as both headlines are in the midst of a controversy due to the abrupt dismissal of the Channel 66 presenter.
The moment went viral on social networks, as the host was surprised by the news in a live broadcast of the program ‘Ciudadano 2.0’ on the state television station, where he was interrupted by the director of the television station, Luis Arnoldo Cabada, to inform him of his contract recession. This is how the moment was lived:
“I come to thank you for these six years… for this intense work that you have done. A cycle has been completed and you have done an extraordinary job (…) Above all, I appreciate the dedication. Because you have been a man dedicated to your projects. Everything has a cycle in life and your cycle has arrived, this is your last day,” he declared.

However, the action not only became a trend due to the very particular way in which the news of the dismissal was spread, but also gained strength on social networks due to the speculation generated by the abrupt departure of the driver. Given this, users alluded that this situation could have derived from the constant criticism that Gustavo Macalpin shared against the governor Marina del Pilar and Andrés Manuel López Obrador, turning it into a matter of political interests and censorship.
What were Macalpin’s controversial statements? The host was placed in the public eye, not only because of his current departure from the television station, but also because some statements came to light against the president of Baja California and the person who appears as her spouse, which happened repeatedly.
The first of them occurred prior to the departure of the former president of Mexico, because during an emotional speech, Del Pilar burst into tears after the departure of López Obrador, an action that unleashed ridicule and criticism from the host of Channel 66, describing him as a “unnecessary action.”
For his part, the presenter also attacked the leader’s husband, Carlos Alberto Torres Torres, through a chapter of his podcast titled: “Carlos Torres to the Tijuana cabinet”; Macalpin made it known that he did not agree with his ascension to a second honorary position during his wife’s administration, since it was contemplated that he would take the direction of strategic projects at the Tijuana City Council. This is how it was pronounced:
“Torres said that this new position in the Tijuana City Council is Honorary and he will not receive a cent, but I believe, I do not like to get involved in marital issues, but sources close to the family have told me that the governor has said like ‘now’,” said the communicator.
Likewise, Gustavo Macalpin has made few comments regarding AMLO’s children, since in his work as a communicator he has highlighted some irregular actions that the heirs of the former president have had.

In response, the governor spoke out on the matter and emphasized that she considered Gustavo Macalpin as a friend of the family, dispelling the conjectures that linked the incident to her personal environment. Likewise, during “La Mañanera” on October 9, the president stated that she had contemplated a conversation with Del Pilar, and both came to the conclusion that this action was not addressed in the correct values.
“Here surprised with the topic of our friend Gustavo Macalpin. Let me tell you first of all, Gustavo is a friend of the family, of my husband, of mine… personal. We love him very much, we really enjoy his program. Unfortunately I can’t watch the program as often as I would like, because at that time I’m sleeping with babies, children with my daughter Marinita, or I’m still arranging things for the next day. Or I am deeply asleep as was the case yesterday (…) this morning I found out what happened,” she said.
