On Friday, August 6, the new film of The Suicide Squad arrives in theaters and at HBO Max, this time, directed and written by James Gunn, in a reboot that has the mission of relaunching the history of the Suicide Squad, which failed with the version launched in 2016 under the direction of David Ayer. To be clear: it’s not a sequel, it’s starting over.
The 2016 installment had burying reviews, a poor script for analysts, and a disappointing performance by Jared Leto as Joker, DC Comics’ most acclaimed villain. Of that feature film, only three roles were applauded by fans: Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller and Will Smith como Bloodshot.
The first two were “saved” by Gunn and will be part of the cast of The Suicide Squad, in which John Cena as Peacemaker, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, and Idris Elba as Bloodsport stand out, in practice the replacement for Smith, who does not He will appear in the film and the real reason for his absence was finally known.
Why is Will Smith not back?
Many thought that Elba would take the place of Smith, but really the actor will play a different character, Bloodsport. In an interview for ComicBook, The Suicide Squad producer Peter Safran explained the real reason Will Smith did not return as Bloodshot.
Safran indicated that the American interpreter was simply not available for the filming dates, anticipated by the return of director James Gunn to Guardians of the Galaxy, volume 3.
“We discussed it. But I think the problem with Will it was more for his schedule than anything else. We knew we had to start filming in September, because, to be honest, we knew before others that James Gunn would be returning to do Guardians of the Galaxy 3“, he expressed.
“So it was really important to start filming when we did that and Will was not available.
Previously, it had been rumored that Will Smith made the condition that his son Jaden be added to the film to return, an alleged whim that would not be the father’s first to please his son, after achieving his leading role in The Karate Kid.
The producer’s words mean that Smith did not participate in the new The Suicide Squad for nothing conflictive, so the success of the delivery could mean the return of the actor for a possible sequel.
