JAKARTA Hormone causes changes in the skin and is responsible for acne Hormonal changes experienced by about 80% of ages 11 to 30 years. These pimples are often seen around the t-zone, so they are very prominent and often painful.

Hormonal acne is acne that is associated with hormonal fluctuations rather than bacteria or something you are doing wrong. According to the experts at Botanycl, although it is associated with hormonal fluctuations during puberty, hormonal acne can strike adults at any age.

Reporting from Express, Saturday (29/5) hormonal acne is very common in women due to menstruation, menopause, and age. Androgen hormones, such as testosterone, can stimulate the sebaceous glands and cause excess oil production and hormonal acne.

Hormonal acne is usually seen during puberty when hormones are everywhere and usually occurs in the t-zone i.e. forehead, nose and chin. This area is prone to hormonal acne in teenagers because it contains more oil glands than the rest of the face.

If you’re an adult with hormonal acne, the experts at Botanycl say you’re more likely to find it on the lower part of the face, which includes the lower cheeks and around the jawline. For some people, small pimples appear and become cysts or whiteheads.

Hormonal acne can be caused by an influx of hormones from menstruation, polycystic ovary syndrome, menopause, and increased androgen levels. These pimples can continue into your 30s and 40s and appear around your mouth, neck, and even your hairline.

The reason why breakouts occur around this time of life as an adult woman is due to the hormones estrogen, progesterone, androgens, and testosterone. Hormone ratios change during your menstrual cycle, pregnancy, while taking the pill, and will continue to drop if you have PCOS and sometimes conditions like endometriosis.

Too much of one of these hormones will stimulate sebum production and cause acne. Sometimes the contraceptive pill is prescribed to treat acne because it lowers androgen levels and sebum production.

Food can also trigger hormonal breakouts so it’s important to give up junk food if you have acne. According to experts, sugary foods, carbohydrates, and dairy products are triggers for hormonal acne although this is not a fact.

“It is best to eat whole natural foods to help balance your skin and not exacerbate any skin problems you may already have. Sugary foods can cause an increase in acne,” explains Botanycl experts.
