Kishore Mahbubani, a professor from the National University of Singapore, praised President Jokowi as a genius leader. Kishore Mahbubani known as a global thinker who has also been a diplomat.
Quoted from his personal website, Kishore Mahbubani you could say you are lucky enough to be able to enjoy two different careers, the world of diplomacy (1971 to 2004) and in academia (2004 to 2019). He is a writer who has spoken in various countries.
In diplomacy, he worked in the Singapore Foreign Service for 33 years (1971 to 2004). He has been posted in Cambodia, Malaysia, Washington DC and New York, where he twice served as Ambassador of Singapore to the United Nations and served as President of the United Nations Security Council in January 2001 and May 2002.
Mahbubani was also the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore from 1993 to 1998. As a result of his performance in his diplomatic career, he was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Gold) by the Government of Singapore in 1998.
Mahbubani entered academia in 2004, when he was appointed Founding Dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKY School), NUS. He was Dean from 2004 to 2017, and Professor in Public Policy Practice from 2006 to 2019.
In April 2019, he was elected an international honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Mahbubani was awarded the Presidential Scholarship in 1967. He graduated with a First Class Honors degree in Philosophy from the University of Singapore in 1971.
From Dalhousie University, Canada, Mahbubani received a Master’s degree in Philosophy in 1976 and an honorary doctorate in 1995. He spent one year as a fellow at the Center for International Affairs at Harvard University from 1991 to 1992.
Mahbubani is listed as one of the top 100 public intellectuals in the world by the magazine Foreign Policy and Prospect in September 2005, and was included in the version’s top 50 list of people Financial Times, March 2009, which will shape the debate about the future of capitalism. He was selected as one of the Global Foreign Policy Thinkers in 2010 and 2011. He was selected by the magazine Prospect as one of the world’s 50 best thinkers for 2014.
