A specific and universal type of charger could begin to apply in Chile Starting next Monday, August 26, the Chamber of Deputies will discuss the final procedure of the bill that regulates them.
The initiative had already been approved by this body, however, the Senate introduced some modifications, in addition to giving it the ‘green light’.
This is a motion that will standardize the Same type of connection for different phones, tablets, cameras, speakers, portable consoles and others, regardless of whether they are from different brands, as is the case today with the connection ports of Apple and other technology firms.
The charger that would be universal if the law is approved
Although the regulations do not refer to a specific charger, For now the standard will be USB-type C. In this regard, the UDI deputy, Cristóbal Martínez, pointed out The Third that the approach behind this decision is that then it can be updated when this option becomes obsolete.
“There will be a regulation that defines the type of entrance, which for now will be this one, so that with the advance of technology it will be easier to modify the entrances,” said Martinez.
In this sense, the project aims to standardize a universal charger. During his attendance at the session of the Senate’s Economic Commission, the national director of Sernac, Andrés Herrera, was optimistic about this regulation and indicated that will simplify the use of electronic equipment, as well as reducing the ecological impact left by these devices.
The text proposes that those who provide mobile information and telecommunications devices ensure interoperability between equipment and loading implements. Marketers must also offer consumers the option of purchasing them together or separately, but do not subordinate the purchase of one of them to that of the other.
Along with this, it proposes that consumers should be informed whether or not the charger is included in the purchase of a mobile device. Other provisions include responsibilities of the Ministry of Economy, Development and Tourism, which will be responsible for establishing the categories of products that will comply with the standard, the technical specifications and how it will be done.
It should be noted that, if the law is approved, there will be up to 2 years for mobile phone devices to be marketed in this wayy up to 4 for other types of electronic devices.
