San José de los Campanos is one of the most recent neighborhoods in Cartagena and, at the same time, one of the most invested in the District since its foundation.
There, approximately 20 years ago, most of its streets were uncovered, full of mud and holes that impeded normal mobility, however, today they are almost entirely paved, there are plenty of commercial establishments and a good standard of living for its residents. population.

However, in race 104 they are not happy. The residents of this street, the last in the neighborhood and adjacent to Villa Grande de Indias in the conurbation area, feel abandoned by the authorities, since they are the only main area of San José that lacks paving.

But that is not the only complaint of the residents, since the fact of having the road uncovered has caused unscrupulous people from other sectors to come there to dump garbage and form clandestine waste dumps, which in turn has increased the proliferation of rats

Yajaira Vázquez, one of those affected, pointed out that the rodents are larger than usual and cause panic, especially since they often cross the sidewalk and enter homes.
“Sometimes the cleaning company does not completely take away the garbage, they leave things behind and that becomes a breeding ground for rats and mice. You see them day and night, they are very scary, I found a giant rat in the bathroom and sometimes I hear them when they walk on the ceiling. The neighbors are tired of this situation ”, expressed Vázquez.

The fear of the inhabitants is that someone will be affected by a disease derived from rats, such as leptospirosis, or that there will be a bite.
“We request a deratization day from the health authorities, and an exhaustive cleaning of the critical garbage points on this street,” Yajaira pointed out.
Similarly, the residents asked the Mayor of Cartagena to pave Carrera 104 as soon as possible, since the Vehitrans buses work there and there are two educational institutions.

Regarding the request for paving in San José de los Campanos, we consulted the District Infrastructure Secretariat but there was no response.
On the other hand, regarding the presence of rodents, from the Dadis they indicated that “the problem is the satellite garbage dump, therefore it is necessary to coordinate with the cleaning company to eradicate it completely. Educational talks on solid waste management can be organized and a waste collection activity can be organized, which must be requested by the neighborhood JAC from the cleaning company. Deratization, by order of the Ministry of Health, is only contemplated in the presence of cases of leptospirosis. In that area we do not have information on cases of leptospirosis, according to the report sent to us by epidemiological surveillance, “said a spokeswoman for the district entity.
