CAPE TOWN – No one thought this country on the African continent ever made a bomb or nuclear weapons . Surprisingly, it voluntarily obliterated its own weapon of mass destruction and ended up being honest with the world.

That country is South Africa. While under apartheid, the country participated in the research and development of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) from the 1940s to the 1990s.

However, in 1989, its decision to end its nuclear weapons program made South Africa the only country in the world to build nuclear weapons and voluntarily eliminate them.
