In 2021 “The Suicide Squad” hits the kiosks. A brand new teaser now revealed the entire cast. There are new faces, but also familiar ones from the first film.
The popular comic series “Suicide Squad” was filmed again. After the first blockbuster from 2016 failed phenomenally, a new attempt will be released in 2021.
“The Suicide Squad” is not a sequel, but a completely new film. The production studio Warner Bros. has probably paid a lot of money for the film rights to the comic and doesn’t want to let them go to waste because of a failure.
Interesting cast with many new faces
For “The Suicide Squad” an interesting mix of old and new was chosen. Some of the stars from “Suicide Squad” resume their roles in the reboot, including Margot Robbie (30) als Harley Quinn, Viola Davis (55) as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman (40) as Rick Flag and Jai Courtney (34) als Captain Boomerang.

The first film, “Suicide Squad”, grossed huge sums of money at the box office, but it was very disappointing for viewers and critics. The directorial work of David Ayer (52) was torn in midair. No wonder, then, that another director was hired for the new attempt.
The job went on James Gunn (54). The filmmaker is known for his ability to effortlessly combine action and humor. His most famous films so far were certainly the first and second part of „Guardians of the Galaxy“.
More war films than gangster flicks
In the teaser for the blockbuster you can already see the differences to the previous film. While the first strip was a genre mix of comics, action and gangsters, the scenes from “The Suicide Squad” are more like a war film.
The mood is gloomy, it always seems to be at night, there is constant bang, one gigantic explosion chases the next. James Gunn himself said: “This movie is different from any superhero movie I’ve made before”.
Theatrical release in 2021
The official theatrical release for “The Suicide Squad” should take place next year. However, the teaser did not yet reveal a more precise release date. But to be honest, the past few months have taught us not to rely too much on data like this.
The corona epidemic resulted in a number of blockbusters like “Tenet” pushed back again and again. The further course of the global crisis will of course have a significant impact on which films will be released in cinemas in 2021.
