What year is considered the worst in history? Research conducted by Michael McCormick, an archaeologist from Harvard University, states that 536 AD is worst year that has been passed by humans on Earth.
At that time, bubonic plague, flu epidemics, famine, and war were rampant and contributed to the high mortality rate. Humans really suffer from it.
In addition, the continent of Europe, the Middle East region, and parts of Asia were pitch black for 18 years due to a mysterious fog. This period is often referred to as the Dark Ages. Historical records say the sun shines as pale as the moon.

One note, this period is not the only time that has been dubbed the Dark Ages. The fall of the Roman Empire is also known as the Dark Ages.
Besides, in the year 536, great snow also fell in China. Temperatures in summer also range from 1.5 to 2.5 degrees Celsius. This makes it the coldest time on Earth for the last 2,300 years. Crops failed and famine was everywhere.
The cause turned out to be a massive eruption that occurred in Iceland. The disaster produced millions of tons of dust that was scattered throughout the world. Worse yet, in 540 AD and 547 AD, there were two subsequent eruptions that occurred.
Since then, McCormick said the Earth showed no signs of improving until AD 640. That means, it’s been more than a century since the worst year of all time occurred.
“It was the beginning of one of the worst periods to live in, if not worst year of all time,” he said, as quoted from the Daily Mail.
