– This is the most important thing you do at Christmas

These days, the health authorities are working intensely to get the population to take the third dose of coronary vaccine.

The National Institute of Public Health came with one on Thursday morning appeal to the population to say yes, and that was also a topic when Jonas Gahr Støre summed up his first months as Norway’s Prime Minister.

Even Crown Princess Mette-Marit used the opportunity to call for a third vaccine dose when she visited the vaccine center at Grünerløkka in Oslo on Thursday morning.

– Takes care of everyone around

However, several cities report problems with filling up vaccination hours during the Christmas holidays.

– There are probably many practical reasons why this can be difficult. But think of this as the most important thing you do at Christmas, says Guldvog and continues:

– In addition to giving your near and dear ones a good hug and a nice Christmas present, it is to take that vaccine. Then you take care of yourself, those you love and everyone around.

That view is shared by FHI director Camilla Stoltenberg.

– People have to line up. It is urgent to get the third dose, the second and the first dose, because the spread of infection with omicron is so fast, she says to TV 2.

– But why take it NOW, and not in one week or after Christmas?

– You should take it as soon as you get the offer, otherwise as soon as it is possible to get it. It is needed now because it provides better defense against serious illness, both with delta, but also with omicron.

The director of FHI, Frode Forland, says that there are several reasons why it is crucial that people say yes now, and not in a few weeks.

– It is important that people get the third dose as soon as possible. This makes us better protected against the new variant, and also the delta variant. It is also important that we get vaccinated as many as possible also down in the age groups to 45 years, to prevent us from getting too strong an increase in infection with both delta and omicron, says Forland.

– Very rarely

Just over 1.2 million Norwegians in the age group 45-64 have been vaccinated with two vaccine doses.

Health director Bjørn Guldvog is optimistic, and hopes they can persuade all of them to get vaccinated a third time.

– There may be some who will choke after having side effects after these two doses, but overall it is very desirable that those who have taken two doses, take a third, he says.

– What would you say to those who are skeptical of dose three, then?

– Then I would say that it is very rare that there are very serious side effects. But talk to your doctor if you are worried that you may not be able to take a third dose. Then I am sure that your doctor can give you good advice, says the health director.

Guldvog also comes with an appeal to those who have not been vaccinated at all.

– For those who have not been vaccinated, or have only taken a dose – then starting the vaccination will be very important. And perhaps most important to take the first.
