This is the Mitsuoka Buddy, a RAV4 disguised as an American off-road from the 80s

The American SUVs of the 70s and 80s are known to all. They have appeared countless times in all kinds of films and, although they have not been sold in Spain, we have become somewhat familiar with them. It’s been many years since they were made, but what if that style made a comeback in a modern car? This is what defines the Mitsuoka Buddy.

It is true, its name is not typically American, and it is actually a Japanese car. In essence it is a Toyota RAV4 with a bodywork inspired by the Chevrolet K5 Blazer of the 80s, forming a combination that you can only love or hate. The first reactions have been very varied, but what is undeniable is that it is an original idea.

Behind this project is Mitsuoka, a Japanese manufacturer specialized in taking modern cars and giving them a retro touch. This is their first SUV and, after announcing it last year, they have now shown the look of the first unit ever made. It is painted in color ‘North Carolina Blue’, a pastel blue shade that matches the white and chrome accents of the rest of the bodywork and is reminiscent of the American off-road styling from which it was inspired.

Overall, the car now looks better than in the first images shown by the company and is characterized by a unique identity that combines two very different eras. For him frontal we see a design very similar to those SUVs of the 80s, but with some rounder lines which are combined with the modern elements of the car that serves as the basis. The rear It has also received changes, but they have not been shown in the video yet. However, the teasers unveiled last year showed vertical taillights and a gate in two colors with folds that made reference in a way to the design of the Chevrolet model.
