Fruit of the marriage between Luis Donaldo Colosio Murrieta – presidential candidate for the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) in the 1994 elections – and Diana Laura Riojas Reyes, the now Monterrey mayor was born on July 31, 1985 in Magdalena de Kino, Sonora, which is currently 38 years old.
After the murder of his father in March 1994 and the death of his mother in November of the same year – due to pancreatic cancer – Colosio Riojas and his sister were orphaned when they were only 8 and 1 year old, so that legally the maternal family assumed guardianship of both.

In 2023, Colosio Riojas positioned himself as one of the strongest profiles to occupy the position of MC presidential candidate for the 2024 federal elections. The race was between him and Samuel García Sepúlveda, governor of Nuevo León.
However, last September he refused to run for the candidacy, as he assured that it was not the right time and that there were many aspects of his life that he needed to work on before seeking a position of that magnitude.
“There are many things that need to mature, starting with myself. I need to mature as a father, as a husband, as a friend, as a public servant and we have to know how to recognize it,” she shared during a conference offered at the University of Monterrey.
It was during Monday night when the orange party member announced through social networks that “he is going to run for the Senate.” Through a 2:32 minute video, Colosio Riojas explained his reasons.
“I have accepted the invitation of Movimiento Ciudadano to run for the highest platform in the country: the Senate of the Republic. The reason is very simple, Mexico needs us to practice responsible politics, politics that dialogues and builds agreements, responsible politics that defends and represents the people and their causes, responsible politics to represent Nuevo León with strength and dignity,” he declared.
So far, the official has not revealed when he will present his license to separate from his position.
