This is the Importance of Controlling the Glycemic Index So It Doesn’t Relapse

Suara.com – World Diabetes Day 2021 or World Diabetes Day is celebrated every November 14, one of which aims for diabetics or diabetics to be able to control glycemic index so as not to relapse.

The glycemic index is a numerical score to determine how quickly food is converted to blood sugar. The higher the score, the higher the sugar in the blood.

Internal Medicine Specialist as well as Diabetes Specialist, dr. Martha Rosana said that one way to control the glycemic index can be done by self-management.

“Research from the World Health Organization shows how self-management education can be beneficial to improve glycemic control in diabetes,” said dr. Martha in the #Hands4Diabetes2021 discussion, Friday (12/11/2021).

The management of diabetes consists of several important points, including what to do during the Covid-19 pandemic, because diabetics are prone to experiencing severity when infected with Covid-19.

“These include setting a healthy diet, regular physical activity, taking medication and using insulin as recommended by a doctor, regularly checking blood sugar levels and foot conditions, and maintaining emotional health,” said dr. Martha.

Even though they know the stages, people with diabetes still need to get assistance from health workers. So it is mandatory to continue to consult a doctor that needs to be done, including through telemedicine though.

“Telemedicine can be done if you have concerns about their condition or experience certain health problems,” concluded the doctor who practices at the FKUI RSCM.
