The disaster killed 20 people, most of them women and children. The death toll is estimated to increase as the process of searching for victims in the rubble is expected.
“The quake injured about 300 people while many of the victims were sleeping,” the statement said.

“The quake occurred at a shallow depth of about 20 km, with the epicenter 102 km east of the city of Quetta,” said the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

“I was sleeping when suddenly my whole house jolted,” Munir Shah, 40, a resident of Harnai district in Balochistan province, told Reuters by telephone.
“I took my children and wife outside. The situation is dire because the houses in Harnai are collapsing, my house is also damaged,” he said.
