This is the first toll road to implement non-stop transactions, starting in 2023

Jakarta

The government is preparing a non-stop or Multi-lane Free Flow (MLFF) toll payment scheme starting next year. The continuous toll payment system will be implemented on this toll road.

The plan is for this toll transaction system to be tested starting June 1, 2023. The Chief Executive Officer of PT Roatex Indonesia Toll System (RITS) as the commercial implementation entity for the MLFF system said that the initial phase of this process should be done in Bali. The selection of Bali went through a discussion process. The consideration is that this section of toll road is not too congested, so it will be easier to carry out checks to ensure that all systems are working properly.

During the process, socialization activities were carried out more massively so that all information could be properly conveyed to the public. “After Bali implements the MLFF as a whole, only then will we test it on other toll roads,” she said.

According to toll road regulatory agency head Danang Parikesit, the MLFF process will be implemented in stages. The toll booth is still maintained. During the transition period, users can transact directly with the MLFF system using an app without going through the toll booth, but gates for conventional non-cash transactions still exist.

“We will start by first eliminating one gate on a toll road for MLFF, while the other gates can still be used for non-cash electronic card transactions,” Danang said.

He said that by implementing MLFF for seamless toll transactions, toll payments could be faster. As a result, the queue at the toll booth no longer exists. In addition, MLFF makes toll collection operational costs more efficient.

“Afterwards to cross the toll road, users only need to download the Cantas application and register, and make sure that the balance is available. Because there will be a Gantry that will supervise the vehicles at different points on the toll road section so that there are no violations,” he explained.
