Nvidia’s absolute flagship for the Ampere architecture RTX 3090 Ti has now landed. So what do the reviews about this mammoth graphics card really say?
After a period of pure silence, Nvidia has now launched the ultimate top model in Ampere architecture. The RTX 3090 Ti takes the specifications a step further than what we have already seen with the RTX 3090. However, the power consumption and price tag also take a step up in this great example of a halo product. So what do the tech world’s different reviewers have to say about this massive piece that is now the most powerful graphics card on the market?
In general, it is possible to summarize the reviews that are available now quite quickly. The RTX 3090 Ti undoubtedly offers very impressive performance in higher resolutions. On the other hand, it is an expensive graphics card that with a TDP value of 450 W requires real power supplies and its energy efficiency is rated by the vast majority.
The graphics card’s brutal specifications and thus high TDP value also require that the cooling solutions are really large. In the video above from JayzTwoCents, we see, for example, how EVGA’s FTW3 Ultra variant of the graphics card comes with a kind of associated leash or snare. A solution from the partner manufacturer that will allow users to basically hang the back of the graphics card in the computer chassis. This in an attempt to prevent so-called GPU sag where the graphics card does not have the strength to hold its own weight.
In terms of actual performance, the reviews show an increase in performance of about five to ten percent in general compared to the RTX 3090. Certainly higher performance, but considering that the graphics card draws 100 W more than its sibling, it is not so badly impressive. Partner-made cards may also have been factory-adjusted to absorb more than the 450 W Nvidia listed for its Founders Edition.
It also remains to be seen how long the RTX 3090 Ti will remain relevant. Nvidia has long been rumored to launch the next consumer architecture called Lovelace during the second half of the year. Something that could mean that the performance crown Nvidia now secured from AMD and RX 6900 XT may soon be twisted again. However, by Nvidia themselves if they now launch a new architecture and its top performance segments within a couple of months.
Nvidia has set the target price for RTX 3090 Ti at SEK 24,000. Thanks to the current lack of components, we probably will not see too many units sell for that price.
In addition to the two video reviews that can be found later in the article, there are a number of written reviews for different models of Nvidia’s flagships and more and more are published over time:
