A resident of Palu City, Central Sulawesi (Sulteng), named Hili, is said to be a legendary crocodile catcher with a tire collar. Hili is known as an animal lover.

“According to the results of the interview with my staff, it turns out that he really likes to help wild animals,” said Head of the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) of Central Sulawesi, Haruna. detik.com, Monday (7/2/2022).

Hili is known not only as a lover of certain animals, but also as a lover of all wildlife, including crocodiles.

“Not just (like to help) crocodiles, but also snakes what all,” Haruna said.

Haruna admitted that he was worried if the crocodile would hurt someone because the residents were so close to the crocodile without any safety limits. However, none of the residents were injured, especially Hili, a crocodile catcher.

“That’s where one’s strengths are, after all,” said Haruna.

Haruna also said that he was happy because as far as he knows, residents of Central Sulawesi in general have never had a conflict with wild animals. He then gave an example that the legendary crocodile often basked on the riverbank but no local residents bothered him, or vice versa.

“So everywhere we forbid him not to get close, eh in fact he sweeps (hold-wipe) the crocodile. So that’s good and I have to be grateful,” said Haruna.

Haruna said that when crocodiles wearing tires bask on the riverbank, residents continue to carry out their activities as usual. Between wild animals and local residents there is nothing that interferes with each other.

“In fact (local residents) he goes to fetch sand he never disturbs, never conflicts between crocodiles and humans,” he said.

As previously reported, crocodiles wearing tires in Palu City have long been popular in Palu City. A number of well-known crocodile charmers, including Australian crocodile charmer Matt Wright, tried to catch the bandage from the crocodile’s collar but were unsuccessful.

But today the residents of Palu City were able to catch the crocodile with the tire collar. Residents then released the tire on the crocodile’s neck by sawing the tire.
