After leaving his career, Truman founded a business called Return Home. Truman hopes to open a Seattle facility in just a matter of weeks.
Return Home is a venture that allows their loved ones to compost after mixing corpses with materials such as wood chips, water, heating, sawdust and alphafa. These materials are used to promote rapid spoilage.
After 30 days, the soft tissue of the corpse will decompose. Then the teeth and bones are buried to create a compost mix. After going through a fairly long process, the rest of the compost is sent to the bereaved relatives 30 days later in a special jar.
Truman was confident that his business would suddenly boom in the years to come, having tested his idea on pigs.
“When I saw this, I thought this is what is going to change the world. So now we can have a very human process that we’ve been doing for thousands of years. We stand next to our loved ones, say goodbye to them and cover them with organic material. which we chose ourselves.” Truman said as reported by the Daily Star.
Truman added that the process is a way for relatives to “say goodbye to their loved ones in a way that feels good.”
Meanwhile, families may be able to use compost for planting such as flowers or vegetables. Truman will give them the option of mixing their favorite flowers or food in the compost. In terms of costs, Truman estimates it will cost around 3,500 Euros.
Truman also plans to create a farewell area where loved ones can say goodbye, similar to a funeral service if they wish.
Currently, California, Colorado and Oregon are expected to follow Washington’s lead in legalizing Terramation which is spreading across the United States. In the UK, natural or ‘green’ burials and burials are allowed, which sees corpses buried in coffins can be decomposed biologically .
