This is the difference between genital warts and genital herpes

JAKARTA – Genital warts and genital herpes are two sexually transmitted infections that are suffered by many people.

Although both are harmless, genital warts and genital herpes both make patients uncomfortable, especially in the genital area.

Since both are caused by sexually transmitted infections, it’s no wonder that genital warts and genital herpes are often mistaken for the same disease. In fact, they are actually two diseases caused by two different viruses.

Genital warts are sexually transmitted infections caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV) and can attack the vulva, vagina, cervix, rectum, anus, penis, scrotum, mouth, and throat.

While genital herpes is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV) and symptoms appear in the genital area and rectum.

Another difference is the symptoms of these two sexually transmitted infections. In genital warts, the symptoms that appear are usually small, flesh-colored lumps that sometimes look like cauliflower, tend to be dry, and are not watery or wet.

Meanwhile, in genital herpes, the symptoms are that there are blisters, watery, and clusters in the genital area, and are generally painful.

In addition, with genital herpes, the patient also usually feels pain when urinating, has a fever, has flu-like symptoms, such as back pain, headache, and increased body temperature.

“Genital herpes is usually painful or painful, while genital warts don’t hurt, at least it’s just itching,” said a dermatologist and genital specialist from Pramudia clinic, dr. Amelia Soebyanto, Sp.DV in a webinar about Genital Warts some time ago.

For the treatment itself, both genital warts and genital herpes are still about relieving clinical symptoms and controlling lesions.

In genital warts, the patient is usually given a chemical solution for smearing, electrosurgery, frozen surgery, laser, or surgical excision, which is tailored to the condition of the patient’s genital warts.

While for genital herpes, patients are given anti-viral treatment to speed up the healing period and reduce the symptoms of this disease. Both genital warts and genital herpes can recur if you have risky sex, especially when you have clinical symptoms.
