Do you think that a swimming pool 10 meters deep is something of the other world? Now imagine one 45.4 meters. It is not fiction, it is really reality, and it was recently opened in the Polish city of Mszczonow, becoming the deepest pool in the world.
It took two years to build and takes 8 thousand m³ of water – 20 times more than a common 25-meter pool, just to get a sense of the size. The price is also frightening – the construction cost around 7.5 million euros.
The pool is presented as a training center for amateurs and professionals, and has a part with replicas of ruins of Mayan caves for visitors to venture out, between 10 and 20 meters. And there is also fun for those who do not want to get wet, as treadmills have been built that allow them to see the most professional divers. And there are also hotel rooms and restaurants overlooking the water.
“There are no beautiful fish or coral reefs here. This is not a substitute for the sea, but it is a really good place to learn and train to dive safely,” said Przemyslaw Kacprzak, a diving instructor.
Jerzy Nowacki was one of the first to open the pool. “For the first time, we went down more than five meters, you can see the bottom, the wreckage, the caves, it’s magnificent!”, Said the amateur diver.
According to the director of this complex, the pool will also serve to train firefighters and the Polish army.
This pool surpasses the depth of another one in Montegrotto Terme, in Italy, by three meters and has therefore become the deepest in the world. But this mark may soon be hit, given that there is already news that a British maritime research and training center plans to open a 50-meter-deep pool in 2021.
