TERNATE, OT – The Ternate City Government (Pemkot) through the Health Office (Dinkes) noted that cumulative HIV/AIDS cases in Ternate City from 2007 to October 2021, as many as 641 people.
Of this number, 179 people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) who are undergoing ARV treatment (on ARV); died 135 people; loss follow up (dropping out of treatment) during the last three months as many as 102 people and who meet the requirements for ARV treatment but have not started ARV treatment as many as 225 people.
The Head of the Ternate City Health Service (Kadinkes), Nurbaity Radjabessy in a written statement said, in Ternate City, all First Level Service Facilities (Puskesmas) have served HIV and STI tests supported by trained health workers.
However, the Support Care and Treatment (PDP) service is only served at four health centers namely, PKM Siko Care; City PKM; PKM Kalumpang and PKM Kalumata and RSUD Chasan Boesorie Ternate.
Nurbaity said that HIV transmission can only occur through unsafe relationships (free sex), syringes and mother -to -child transmission.
“We can live together with PLWHA because the virus cannot be transmitted through social contact such as eating together, using shared public facilities and so on,” said Nurbaity.
The Ternate City Government through the Health Office has made efforts to prevent and control HIV/AIDS for high-risk groups and vulnerable groups through programs that have been implemented either by the Health Service, Puskesmas or in collaboration with other agencies or institutions that care about handling HIV/AIDS problems.
