Jakarta –
Sales iPhone 12 Mini recently reported not in accordance with expectations. Even in the latest news, Apple to slash down on the latest iPhone orders. What is the reason?
Nikkei Asia, citing related sources, said the iPhone orders cut by 20% was due to the decreasing demand for the iPhone 12 Mini.
Overall, Apple’s new generation of iPhones are still in high demand. According to the Nikkei, Apple plans to produce 230 million iPhones in 2021, up 11.6% from 2020.
However, as quoted detikINET from CNBC, Friday (12/3/2021), the iPhone 12 Mini apparently did not sell according to Apple’s target because consumers preferred the larger iPhone 12 device, and some were even more interested in the iPhone 11.
The news that iPhone 12 Mini less shine has been circulating before. In sales data in the United States in the first half of January 2021 yesterday by Counterpoint Research, sales of the iPhone 12 Mini only accounted for 5% of all iPhone 12 variants sold in Uncle Sam’s country, aka the least buyers.
This indicates that small smartphones are getting less and less attractive. Many consumers switch to larger size smartphones because they are more spacious in viewing content. “The iPhone Mini is basically just a smaller version of the iPhone 12 with worse battery life. While it appeals to people with smaller hands, most consumers prefer to spend an extra $ 100 for the iPhone 12, which has better battery and bigger screen,” wrote CNBC.
“This is consistent with what we saw in the wider global market, where screens under 6 inches now only cover about 10% of all smartphones sold,” said Tom Kang, Counterpoint analyst.
In fact, because demand for the iPhone 12 Mini is weak, the supply chain may stop production in the second quarter of 2021. This does not mean iPhone 12 Mini stopped selling. More production has been stopped because the stock may have been deemed sufficient so that it does not need to be made again.
