On Wednesday, he said the RS-28 Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile system should make Moscow’s adversaries stop and think twice about threatening Russia.
When announcing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine eight weeks ago, Putin warned the West not to interfere. “Any attempt to hinder it will lead to consequences you have never met in your history,” he said.

A few days later, he ordered Russia’s nuclear forces on high alert or ready for combat.
United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said last month, “The prospect of nuclear conflict, once unthinkable, is now returning to the realm of possibility.”

A 2020 document entitled “Basic Principles of State Policy of the Russian Federation on Nuclear Deterrence” said saying that the Russian president took the decision to use nuclear weapons.
