Saat rival jor-joran, Liverpool instead it’s cool and calm in the transfer market this summer. This very economical trend has occurred in several transfer windows.
In an effort to defend the title Premier League, Liverpool have just brought in defender Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiakos for 11-13 million pounds.
Regarding the transfer policy, Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp said that one of the reasons his club did not do anything was consideration of the financial future, especially in the midst of the current pandemic situation. Moreover, Red is not a club “owned by the oligarchy, (or) the state.”
“We can’t say we want to be like Chelsea. You can’t just bring in the 11 best players in the world and hope they do well. It’s all about hard work in practice. That might be our advantage, “said Klopp.
Whether intended as a subtle allusion to Chelsea or just a comparison, the Blue’s shopping activity this summer has been very aggressive. More than 200 million pounds have been disbursed and it is predicted that it will still increase.
Sky Sports also explores more about the buying activity of players Liverpool, Chelsea and other big Premier League clubs in the top six. Liverpool are indeed the most economical in the four transfer window periods, namely one this summer, two transfer windows for the 2019/2020 season, and the winter transfer in 2018/2019.

In the 2019/2020 season, Takumi Minamino became Liverpool’s most expensive purchase with around 7.25 million pounds in the January transfer market. Meanwhile, in the 2018/2019 season, the Red did not even make purchases on the winter market.
However, in the summer of 2018/2019, or the fifth transfer window before this – which incidentally has not counted Sky Sports data, Liverpool indeed still spending a lot, among others, by buying Alisson Becker, Fabinho, and Xherdan Shaqiri. Only then did the Reds really save money in terms of buying players.
