Felipe VI and Queen Letizia have once again chosen the centre of Madrid to enjoy a romantic evening on one of the many hot August nights in the capital, specifically last Thursday, the 22nd. Taking advantage of a gap in the royal agenda during the summer season, the monarchs were seen in the well-known Plaza de Oriente with complete naturalness, smiling and greeting all the passers-by they came across.
The place chosen for their date? ‘La lonja del mar’, one of their favourite restaurants where they have already been photographed on several occasions. Located opposite the Royal Palace, this famous seafood restaurant has a wide and varied menu of haute seafood cuisine signed by executive chef Fernando Negri where there is no shortage of creative touches in each of its dishes.
“This is the gastronomic proposal we offer at ‘La lonja del mar’: products of extraordinary quality, prepared with great care and respect to highlight their freshness and flavour, to which we add our personal touch,” is how the restaurant is described on its website. From white shrimp from Huelva to carabinero from the Strait of Gibraltar, among others, ‘La lonja del mar’ offers authentic Valencian paella made following the traditional recipe with “rabbit, free-range chicken, green beans, Valencian garrofón and a delicious natural and homemade fried tomato.”
Very varied offer
The menu also includes options such as clams (€14/100g), oysters (€5.90 each) or white prawns from Huelva (€16/100g) up to their famous XXL monster langoustine (€22/100g), mountain vegetables such as asparagus, artichokes, tomatoes, gazpachos… Not forgetting their well-known free-range eggs in elaborate recipes such as ‘Benedictine’, boreal prawns in hollandaise sauce (for €15.50), “Al punto” with salmorejo cordobés with flakes of Iberian ham (€13.50) or “Fritos con puntilla” and Cantabrian Txangurro meat (2 units €18.50).
The establishment has three different spaces. On the one hand, the Lonja Restaurant, the first and most sophisticated of all; the Taberna de La Lonja and the Barra de La Lonja, with unbeatable views of the Royal Palace. “The strategic location of the three spaces makes this neoclassical jewel the perfect place to enjoy the best cuisine and the best views of the capital of Madrid,” they say from there.
