Goodbye to the manual transmission
In this second update, one of the most significant changes is the elimination of the manual transmission in the Trendline version, which was the entry-level version with a price of 399,990 pesos. Now, all versions have an automatic transmission that emulates eight gears, replacing the six-speed Tiptronic transmission, which accompanies the 1.4L TSI 150 hp engine in the Trendline, Comfortline and Sportline versions.
Alfonso Chiquini, Volkswagen’s director of marketing and public relations, explained that the decision to eliminate the manual transmission in the Jetta responds to the current preferences of compact sedan consumers, who prioritize comfort in urban driving. “Models in this segment are predominantly used in the city, where the comfort of an automatic transmission is highly valued. This has reduced the demand for manual transmissions,” said Chiquini.
He also noted that the main argument in favour of manual gearboxes used to be fuel efficiency, but this has been achieved with the new eight-speed automatic transmission, as by optimising the gear ratios, the engine operates in its optimum rev range for longer. This not only reduces petrol consumption, but also reduces polluting emissions.

Among the aesthetic adjustments, the new headlights with LED technology stand out, including front headlights, daytime running lights and rear lights connected by a continuous line.
Inside, the Jetta features a 10.25-inch Volkswagen Digital Cockpit, a 10-inch touchscreen, and dual-zone Climatronic touch. It also offers advanced safety features such as adaptive cruise control with autonomous emergency braking and lane-keeping assist.
Volkswagen has updated the prices of the different versions of the Jetta to reflect the improvements in design and technology. The entry-level version, Trendline, is now priced at 438,070 pesos, followed by the Comfortline version at 486,070 pesos. The Sportline version, which adds sporty features, is available for 554,070 pesos.
Jetta 70th Anniversary Special Edition
Volkswagen has taken advantage of this update to launch a limited edition of 1,070 units of the Jetta 70 Aniversario. This version, which commemorates the seven decades of the German brand’s presence in Mexico, includes exclusive details such as a pearl Oryx White exterior color, “70” emblems on the B-pillars, 17-inch wheels with a two-tone finish and an interior with leather seats.
The limited 70th Anniversary edition, with exclusive details and a commemorative design, is priced at 572,070 pesos.
Jetta GLI: The sporty version
The sportiest version, the Jetta GLI, keeps the 230 hp 2.0L TSI engine, coupled to a seven-speed Tiptronic DSG transmission. Priced at 677,070 pesos, this version includes distinctive features such as red moldings on the front fascia, 18-inch two-tone wheels, and a dual oval exhaust system, as well as a three-year maintenance service package.
Made in China?
The Jetta has been manufactured at Volkswagen’s plant in Puebla since its arrival in Mexico in 1981, and although there have been rumors about the possible move of its production to China, Volkswagen executives have confirmed that the model will continue to be assembled in Mexico.
This update, according to Arnulfo González, Head of Product, Pricing and Planning at Volkswagen, ensures the presence of the Jetta in the Mexican market for at least three more years, although an eighth generation has not been confirmed.
