The vast majority of young people attach importance to protection and security: 47% consider this “very” important and 44% “somewhat” important. This was the result of a survey carried out by… Wissma Marktforschungs-GmbH for the Generali Insurance AG has carried out. Wissma surveyed 302 young people between the ages of 15 and 25 online in July and August for the “Generation Study”.
How important is private insurance?
What role does insurance play in this context? Which ones do young people consider to be important? Of the ten categories presented, each received more than 50% “very important” or “somewhat important” responses.
At the top is motor vehicle insurance, which 38% find “very” and 36% “somewhat” important. This is followed by household/home, life and accident with relatively similar values.
At the bottom is nursing care, and second to last in the ranking is travel insurance, which – given the importance of “mobility”, especially for young people, see motor vehicles – receives slightly less approval than occupational disability and health insurance.
Self-assessment of insurance knowledge
But how well do the respondents actually think they know the subject?
On the school grade scale, less than half (42%) rate their own insurance knowledge as “very good” (13%) or “good” (29%).
Two thirds are oriented towards parents, half think counselors are important
A clear majority of two thirds also “absolutely” or “somewhat” agree with the statement that they should generally trust “the recommendations of my parents’ insurance advisor”.
A good half can identify with the statement “It is important to me to have a personal insurance advisor” (22% “absolutely”, 32% “somewhat”).
Half of them don’t care which insurer they are insured with, but they only want to have a single contact person for all policies. Having all insurance from a single company is important to around six out of ten respondents.
With this in mind: Talk to your advisor – and also talk to your children and recommend an advisor to them.
