In times of a pandemic, team spirit can suffer. Many have been working from home for months. This makes it all the more important to pay special attention to the sense of togetherness.
the essentials in brief
- A good workplace climate is important for employees and company productivity.
- The team leader can, for example, contribute with decision transparency.
- Employees should contribute their own initiative with questions and suggestions.
A good atmosphere in the team is just as important for the satisfaction of the employees as it is for the success of the company. However, the topic is by no means always a sure-fire success.
Cohesion and commitment should therefore be cultivated regularly, recommends Catharina Stahn.
The scientific expert at the Institute for Applied Work Science (ifaa) gives tips on how both the team and the manager can make their contribution.
Managers can do that
The team management should communicate transparently and regularly which tasks contribute to which corporate goal.
It is also important for managers to regularly encourage team members. An honestly meant “Well done” can make a big difference.
Team leaders should not only promote exchanges between colleagues and other departments. They should also signal themselves that they are approachable and that ideas from the team are wanted and valued.
Where possible, on-site team meetings contribute particularly to a good sense of togetherness.
Employees can do that
Team cohesion grows when employees approach their superiors or team members with questions or when they need to talk.
If everyone is actively involved, this also reduces the distance that often arises when everyone is increasingly working from home.
Ifaa expert Catharina Stein recommends strengthening cooperation through new formats. This could be lunch breaks, coffee breaks or events after work.
The most important thing is the regularity, not the duration of the meetings.
