Signal is known for its strong focus on data protection and privacy. But the messenger also has a lot to offer in terms of user-friendliness.
Did you know that you can quickly and easily filter for unread messages in the desktop version of Signal?
Keep an eye on unread chats
In the hectic digital world, you can quickly lose track of all the news. Signal therefore offers a practical function to focus on what is important: the unread messages.
Here’s how it works
- Open search field: Simply click in the search field at the top of the chat list
- Enter !unread: Type “!unread” (without quotes) in the search box and press Enter
- Voilà: All chats with unread messages will be displayed
This function is not yet officially integrated into the user interface, but is currently used for internal testing purposes. Since Signal is an open source app, its accessible source code allows users to discover and use such hidden features.
What else is in Signal?
The Signal team is continually working on new features to make Messenger even better. For example, the following innovations are being planned:
- Anruflinks: Easily create and share group calls
- Encrypted cloud backups: Securely store messages in the cloud
You can use the “!unread” trick to quickly get an overview of all unread messages in Signal Desktop. Even if the function is not yet officially supported, it is a practical helper in everyday life.
