The Wah musical and gastronomic show is a journey through the history of music and a culinary journey around the world. A night to experiment with the five senses.
What would you do if it was your last night on earth? What music would you like to hear? Would you like to enjoy your favorite food or would you prefer to try something new? Madrid has a new show in its cultural portfolio in which all this is possible. In Wah, pavilion 2 of IFEMA becomes a world of dystopia in which the performing arts merge with the gastronomic experience.
The pandemic has caught us wanting to go out, dance and enjoy and that is what is breathed in the atmosphere of Wah, a new leisure concept in the Madrid capital. In the words of its creators, “it is a show that breaks the conventional show model where a fantastic cast of artists, brutal technology, 5 hours of experience and more than 1,000 people working in a project designed for many years, for tourists from all over the world and with a single language: music”.
There we will enter fully into the history of Wah, the last place on the planet where you can enjoy music. A group of rebellious artists face the Omega Nation, a totalitarian group that has prohibited any trace of artistic expression, and will do everything possible to recover the music.
We will attend to a journey through the great musical genres, from opera to electronics through the most recognized melodies in the world. But to enjoy the show you will first have to go through the more than 1,000 square meters of food hall, where attendees can sample dishes from around the world at its 14 food stations.
An unprecedented dystopia
In a nuclear clean room, the Wah experience begins. Some hooded men from the Omega Nation await the attendees, who will be able to escape through a dark tunnel guided by the Wah rebels. The interaction with the public It will be a frequent plot throughout the night, so that everyone can feel totally immersed in the history and atmosphere of the show. .
Once through the narrow tunnel, the food hall awaits in its maximum splendor, a gastronomic space with decorations that come from a movie set. In just a few steps we can jump from a Spanish tavern to a street market in Tokyo, a Mexican food truck or an Italian trattoria. The space is formed 14 gastronomic stations with the star dishes of each cuisine in the world: sushi, pizzas, hamburgers, tacos… and Iberian ham. And there are even vegan dishes.
While we enjoy dinner, actors, dancers, musicians, acrobats and stilt walkers go around the tables and showcooking stalls to liven up this first act, prior to the musical show.
Wah’s is one unprecedented creative proposal so far in our country, since it has managed to merge a high-end dining experience (the food is provided by Life Gourmet, one of the leading catering companies in Spain) along with a Broadway-style musical show. In this sense, “it was necessary to ensure that the food served at Wah was “up to the show”, says Diego Gomez Montero, CEO of Life Gourmet.
When music time approaches, the rebels guide us to the stalls (with more than 1,000 seats) where the second act of the night will take place. Here Wah takes out all the artillery to make a extensive journey through the history of music. Through the most mythical themes – Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Bohemian Rhapsody are heard, among others – all styles are reviewed. Opera, flamenco, jazz, rock, electronics… None are missing and they all combine perfectly in the show.
Puccini, Lady Gaga, Paco de Lucía, David Guetta or The Beatles make up Wah’s unforgettable playlist. The two hours of music -which fly by- are even more enjoyable thanks to a sensational staging. And for such a show, Wah has a cast of singers, musicians and artists from Broadway, London’s West End and great national and international voices, winners of The Voice or artists from iconic musicals such as The Lion King or The Ghost of the Opera.
It also amazes locker room, which has been designed to create a new “race” of people, the Wah Rebels and the Omegas, an amalgamation of futuristic elements and steampunk aesthetics. Jordi Dalmau, creative director of Wah and designer, says that “Wah’s wardrobe is very crazy, it’s like the show. We are not all following the same line, each character, artist, has a different personality so we have enhanced it with each suit ”
The more than 80 garments that are used every night on stage have been made, sewn and painted by hand, “so that the garment is even more selective and there are no two alike”, says Dalmau. In addition, for each one of them “we have always counted on the essence of each musician or each singer to know the purpose they wanted, so that on stage they would be comfortable and super fused with the costumes”.
The increase in renewables from Naturgy
The victory of the Wah rebels against the omega in this part of the show is the triumph of music, which ends the second act. Although this does not mean that the Wah fun is over, because there is still one more surprise waiting. The night ends in style at La Catedral, the central space of the food hall that has now been converted into a New York-style nightclub where attendees can enjoy drinks and cocktails to the rhythm of live music, led by DJ Mickey Dastinz./strong>.
This third act puts an end to one of the essential cultural days of the season. A groundbreaking project as a leisure proposal for the original fusion of experiences that hosts, and that has been possible thanks to IFEMA’s ability to transform itself into a great stage in which to enjoy music, before it is banned, of course. .
