This is how you get the Windows clock to display the day of the week

There are various simple settings for how time and date should be displayed in the clock at the bottom right of the Windows taskbar. You can access these via Settings, Time and language, Region. But if you want to do more, you have to go into the old Control Panel, which Microsoft is doing more and more to hide.

For example, you might also want the day of the week to be displayed in the clock field. This and other things are not so difficult to fix if you know where to go to do it. It works on all versions of Windows, including Windows 11, but the way to access the settings varies. Therefore, we show here a method that always works.

  1. Click the Start button and type intl.cpl.
  2. Click on the control panel item that appears in the start menu.
  3. click Additional settings.
  4. Switch to the tab Datum.
  5. In the field Short datein front of the text that is already there, write dddd and a space. This will show the full weekday name. If you would rather have it too short for three characters, write instead ddd.
  6. You can do the same with Long datewhich is the pop-up box that appears if you hover over the clock.
  7. There is also nothing to stop you from writing what you want if you instead want a happy message in the watch…
  8. Close with OK.
