«This is how we became“ Gli Autogol ”, from the oratory to millions of views» – Corriere.it

Interior pavese. Two boys know each other at school, the third joins the theatrical stage of an oratory. They form a trio and land on the frequencies of a local radio, then the first experiments on YouTube. Today they involve a digital audience of millions of people. It is the synthesis of the history of the Autogol, trio of youtubers, imitators and hosts, who have managed to transform the passion for football combined with irony into the job they dreamed of. «Ours is a story of friendship. If there were no own goals, the three of us would still be friends. And we would probably spend most of our time laughing and joking following football ». But now they are “a real company” with a following of two million people on Facebook, as many on YouTube where the video “Baila como el Papu” (understood as Gomez, the Atalanta player) has reached 44 million. views.

Michele Negroni and Alessandro Iraci (today they are 32 years old) they met at the Copernicus scientific high school in Pavia. The understanding was born immediately, especially in the imitations of the professors: «In a completely unconscious way, it was an incredible gym. I thought that by studying I would build my future, but I built it at school, but in moments of fooling around, learning to imitate teachers “, says Michele, the name in honor of Michel Platini (” luckily my idol father was not Zbigniew Boniek, otherwise I don’t know what he would have called me “). In fact, among their strong points there are imitations: «The trick of dubbing parodies is to trace the original lip as much as possible, changing only a few words. When you have to imitate a character you have to study him, there is little to say. You have to investigate the movements, the tics, the expressions, the phrases he often repeats ». At the time, the trio was just a couple. Alessandro «Rollo» Trolli is two years younger and joins later, on the small stage of the San Genesio oratory theater, «for many years the rehearsal room of the“ San Genesis ”, as our group was called».

The first turning point comes with the debut on the radio in 2008. “At the time we spent whole days creating scripts, inventing scenes for the theater; by now it was becoming something more than a simple passion and there were always a lot of people at the shows. Radio Ticino was the radio of the diocese. A Catholic broadcaster, therefore, with few programs and little money to invest in facilities and equipment. The show was called Pavia Sport Mania. For at least three years, from 2008 to 2011, it went like this: we basically broadcast for ourselves, we have fun and we don’t have big problems if nobody or almost nobody listens to us ». To grow there is also the experience in TeleLombardia with Football Flop: «A program entirely conceived, conducted and produced by the three of us. In practice, a self-production. The deal was this: I give you the space, you do your broadcast but I don’t pay you. Oh God, there is a fee, to tell the truth: 50 euros in three episodes. Dividing, periodical 16.6 euros each, practically the petrol to arrive and a sandwich with water at the end of the episode, sometimes we can miss a beer. However, this is a great chance for us ».

The nom de guerre is not their thing: «Michele was sitting in an engineering study room. In front of him two of his classmates, including Giuseppe who offers two ideas: Muntari’s goal. Or own goals ». The second one you said is the good one. Slowly they grow, social networks have always been more important to them than traditional media, the web eventually launches them. The secret? «Our great intuition was to realize that in Italy, in 2011, the comedy about football practically no longer existed. A program like Mai dire Gol had been missing for ten years now ». Gialappa «for us is a myth», but the teacher is Paolo Villaggio: «The paradox is one of the most effective elements when writing a comic text: messing up the order».

Millions of views on YouTube, for six seasons a comedy-sports program on Radio 105, now they have also published a book, Football (not) is a serious matter (Piemme) where they tell their story, interspersed with several anecdotes: soccer matches with Javier Zanetti, the musical hit with Papu Gomez, the films in which they had Del Piero and Immobile act, Allegri, Conte and Buffon laughing at the their imitations. Despite the success, those who started from the oratory still feel: «Our way of living and preparing our parodies has not changed. Making us laugh ironically about football makes us happy, like when you find a ball in the middle of a field. You, the ball and a goal in front: nothing more beautiful ».
