This is how the weather will be on New Year’s Eve

– Seeing temperatures in the 20s in Central Europe at this time, I think it is probably a bit unusual, says meteorologist on duty at the Meteorological Institute, Jon Austerheim, to Dagbladet.

There are large temperature contrasts in Europe this week. While we in the north are currently characterized by minus degrees and snow, a high pressure is around Spain and gives high temperatures over large parts of southern and central Europe.

– The warm air currents originate in southern parts of the Atlantic Ocean. It provides almost summery air in several places. It is not so uncommon in Spain. But the same thing is happening in France and parts of Germany, says meteorologist Austerheim.

Can provide heat record

Danish TV 2 writes that one in London and Paris on Wednesday can experience temperatures of up to 17 degrees. The warm air will also make its mark on Denmark, as the gentle air currents will move north in the coming days.

– It may give us one of the warmest New Year’s juices ever, writes TV 2’s weather forecaster, who points out that on New Year’s Eve it can be 10 degrees in Denmark.

Large parts of southern Norway will also experience positive temperatures towards the end of the week. On Thursday, there will be plus degrees on the coast up to and including Nordland, and a transition from snow to sleet and rain in the outer areas

– Watch out

– From Thursday onwards, there will be a separation over southern Norway. Then it will generally be milder, especially in the far south. Then it will be temporarily a little cooler on Thursday, before it will be warmer again on Sunday. However, it will not be as long-lasting and hot as further south in Europe, says Austerheim.

The change of weather can present challenges in parts of the country. A yellow danger warning has been sent out on ice in Agder, as rain is expected on Wednesday evening and night until Thursday, freezing on the ground.

– Watch out for slippery, and remember to drive according to the conditions, the Meteorologists write on Twitter.

At the same time, many can probably enjoy clear weather on the last night of the year. Although the weather forecast is not completely nailed down, there are many indications that there will be temporary weather in large parts of the country. The exception is some showers in Trøndelag, in the north-west and along the coast furthest north.

– Western Norway will have a rain-wet end to 2021. Up to 30-40 mm of rain, the Meteorologists write on Twitter.
