Trees torn down, power outage and a sheep blown over: storm “Nasim” swept across the region on Thursday. Police, fire brigades and road maintenance departments had their hands full.

Storm low “Nasim” hit Baden-Württemberg and southern Baden on Thursday with heavy rain and hail. On the peaks of the Black Forest, the wind blew with gusts of up to 140 kilometers per hour, as reported by the German Weather Service (DWD).

The storm caused numerous accidents in southern Baden. Around 75 operations were recorded at the Freiburg police headquarters by midnight. Fortunately, despite the many incidents, there were no injuries. But one or the other use was curious. The police report that in Eichstetten around 9 p.m. the wind blew over a sheep and it couldn’t get up on its own. Power failure and falling trees

Cancellations and delays in train traffic

The storm also raged in the rest of Baden-Württemberg. In Stuttgart, the fire brigade said it had to secure a roof after it had been damaged by the storm and bricks had come loose. In Biberach, the storm affected a ventilation system in the hospital, the police said.

According to Deutsche Bahn, travelers had to be prepared for restrictions and train cancellations in train traffic. Trees fell on tracks on the routes between Engen (Constance district) and Tuttlingen, as well as between Freiburg and Titisee and Freiburg and Breisach.

According to the German Weather Service, the storm will still have the southwest under control for the next few days. Citizens have to reckon with falling trees or falling branches, said Baden-Württemberg Minister of Agriculture Peter Hauk (CDU). He therefore asked people to refrain from visiting the forest in the coming days.

On Friday afternoon, stormy gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour and in the Feldberg area hurricane gusts of up to 120 kilometers per hour are possible in the southern half, as the DWD announced. In the Black Forest there is continuous rain in some areas with 40 to 60 liters per square meter until Saturday night.
