Inner city. “The scene was ghostly,” says one participant of the district conference of the SPÖ, the events that led to the election of the first Afro-Viennese top candidate in a district, the doctor Mireille Ngosso. After the presentations, the politician with roots in the Democratic Republic of the Congo received great applause.
Firemen section. Ngosso had been unanimously nominated on all committees, and there was not a single critical comment in the discussion about the top candidate for the district election.
And then that: Mireille Ngosso received only 46 percent of the votes in the secret vote among the 126 delegates in Vienna’s eighth-strongest SP district. “It was probably the extremely strong fire department and maybe one or two company sections that wanted to give her a memo as well as some of the boys and maybe the retirees. They didn’t talk to each other – and then it happened, ”said one participant.
Standing ovation. In the end, Mireille Ngosso had a standing ovation – doubly ghostly – because she declared that despite her defeat, she would remain loyal to the SPÖ.
Self-criticism. Now you stand there like the poured poodles. “We have to accept the secret choice, no matter how uncomfortable. You can call that a lack of conversation culture, ”said district chairman Georg Niedermühlbichler.
Successor. Now there is total chaos, the councilor Niedermühlbichler has to look for a successor – even if she explains to AUSTRIA that she “has other priorities and only acts as district councilor”, Ngosso’s predecessor Daniela Ecker-Stepp is considered the favorite for the successor.
At any rate, there is pure chaos at the district level at the SPÖ. After the Margaretner district chief resigns from the party, the party threatens to split in the Danube city …
