The Argentine national team suffered its second setback in the qualifiers for the 2026 United States-Mexico-Canada World Cup. It lost 2-1 to Colombia in Barranquilla with goals from Yerson Mosquera and James Rodríguez (Nicolás González temporarily tied the score for the albiceleste) on matchday 8 and it was a surprise, since the world champion and two-time champion of America only has three defeats in 64 matches. However, remains at the top of the standings after a day that saw two resounding victories, from Bolivia and Paraguay. All the details are in canchallena.com.
Starting this Wednesday, the players who participated in the FIFA double date will return to training with their respective clubs, although not for long. The Albiceleste team, for example, will be back in action next month, during matchdays 9 (the last of the first round) and 10 (the first of the second round). The first of these meetings will be on Thursday October 10 at 8pm against Venezuela at the Monumental stadium in Maturín, located in the state of Monagas. The second, meanwhile, will take place On Tuesday, October 15 at 9 p.m. against Bolivia, at home and probably in the interior of the country.
The first surprise of the day in the Qualifiers was the Colombia’s victory over Argentina, although a priori it was known that everything was possible since these are the two teams with the best present. That’s why Bolivia gave the initial shock of the date by beating Chile 2-1. as a visitor thanks to goals from Carmelo Algarañaz and Miguel Terceros (Eduardo Vargas scored for the trans-Andean team). It was the Bolivian team’s first victory away from home in 31 years. With this result, they won both matches they played in September (last week they beat Venezuela 4-0 at home) and have entered the play-off zone.

Ecuador beat Peru by the minimum difference with a goal from Enner Valencia and sank them even further to the bottom of the table, while climbing to fourth place. In addition, Venezuela and Uruguay did not go beyond a 0-0 draw at the Monumental de Maturín, a result that saw La Celeste drop to third place and La Vinotinto climb from seventh to sixth place to be in the direct qualification zone for the next World Cup.
Finally, Paraguay closed the day with another historic victory and extended Brazil’s bad streak by defeating them 1-0 with a great goal from Diego Gómez. He did it with the help of Argentine coach Gustavo Alfaro, in his second match in charge of the team. It was the first victory of the Albirroja over the Verdeamarela in 16 years.
