This is how the smartphones of the future will change

Smartphones are visibly evolving year after year, however, this development in recent times seems to be no longer as spectacular. The displays will always be a little prettier, the cameras will be better, and the hardware behind them will be unnecessarily strong, but the huge leaps will somehow be missed. However, we believe that even in this decade, we can expect really interesting innovations!

1. Foldable and extendable displays everywhere

It is almost an envelope that bendable displays will spread rapidly in the coming years. Of course, these will continue to appear at the top of the premium category for a long time to come, but Samsung, for example, has promised to gradually bring them down to its more affordable products. Our tip is that you don’t have to wait long for Apple to come up with a phone like this.

In addition, if not in the near future, but towards the end of the decade, pull-out displays, from which prototypes already exist, such as Samsung, may already be commonplace. True, this can be drawn another 12 millimeters, which is not much, but with further development we will be able to turn a relatively small display into a tablet size.

2. Self-healing display and changeable color back cover

No matter how more and more rugged displays are being put into modern smartphones, somehow none can prevent the horror of accidentally knocking down our poison-expensive device, which we bought two days ago, off the desktop and breaking the screen into a cobweb.

Fortunately, there is more research on this that would use materials (typically polymers) instead of the glass we take today that are capable of self-healing to some extent, such as under pressure, using the heat from our fingers. Similarly, experiments are already underway with back-to-back solutions that allow you to change the color if you get bored of the original.

3. Wireless charging even over the air

Slowly, cheaper devices are expected to be able to charge wirelessly, so of course they will become more and more widespread than standard wireless chargers. So in a few years, it is expected that not only the headphone output but also the charging connector will disappear from the phones, and we will only be able to solve this wirelessly.

But you don’t have to get stuck in the current situation, which is to put the phone on an induction surface. Several companies are working to implement wireless charging over the air, even from a distance of one to two meters. Thus, “charging stations” will be able to be installed in a lot of places in the future, whether in computers or refrigerators, or just smoothly in business premises, so we will be able to charge the phone anywhere and anytime.

4. Holography and mixed reality

Although RED has tried a holographic display before with its very heavily inflated Hydrogen One, and since then no one else has tried very hard to bring it to market, that doesn’t mean the manufacturers aren’t actively addressing the issue. Samsung, among others, is constantly filing patents for these, and labs already have a super-thin display capable of projecting a 3D holographic image.

At the same time, mixed reality (AR) will play an increasingly important role in the future, and Apple is clearly preparing for this by placing more and more devices on the back of this place, such as a LiDAR sensor. Within years, the time may come when we will see reality less and less through our own eyes, but on a smartphone that will provide a wealth of information and assistance on the go using AR.

5. In fact, we will be using more and more other smart devices

There is no question that the smartphone is now an essential central part of many people’s lives, capable of a lot of tasks and a lot of things depend on it. However, we are getting closer and closer to the point where it will no longer be worth entrusting everything to the phone because it will be too much of an “effort” to have to go through that little thing in that process. to find the device -> unlock it -> find the right application -> do our thing -> close it.

Experts say this is why other smart devices will become increasingly important for our everyday convenience. A smart bracelet is more effective for training, a smart speaker for controlling (and listening to music) in a smart home, a smart suit for monitoring our health, and their number will only increase as almost all existing devices connect to the internet with 5G and become artificially intelligent.
