WhatsApp still does not implement improvements that allow the application to be used on several devices at the same time. Now the only thing that allows is to log in on another mobile, even if we do not have the SIM card. Just by writing the phone number and by SMS, the account will be activated on that device.
The Civil Guard has warned on its social networks of a new scam that can get hold of the account of WhatsApp and send messages on behalf of the victim, initiate orders, register subscriptions or demand a ransom.
The system is relatively simple and requires the collaboration of people who do not have much knowledge of WhatsApp and who only use this chat to write to each other with friends o relatives.
SMS
Once the attacker gets the victim’s mobile number by any method, since nowadays it is a data that is shared too much, he will try to enter WhatsApp. At that time, an SMS will be sent to the victim with the code.
At the same time, the thief he will write another message and ask for the SMS code, posing as a clueless person and, yes, making it clear that you have to send it urgently.
If the victim is a old personsomeone who does not control technology very well or, simply, because of the rush of day to day, it is very easy to share the code and deliver the account to the scammer.
Recovering the account is easy because you only have to repeat the process on the mobile of the victim and enter the SMS, but there is a time when WhatsApp will be in the hands of another person.
To avoid this situation, you should always be suspicious when, without having requested it, an SMS arrives with a code or someone unknown asks you for that number. The safest thing in these cases is to activate the two-step verification WhatsApp to have double control of access to the account.
