Police exposes the criminal mode of the syndicate for breaking into bank customer accounts and Grab origin of Tulung Selapan, Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI), South Sumatra (South Sumatra). The National Police said the perpetrators took advantage one time password.
“This suspect is using one time password, meaning that this customer gets password from the previous account from the bank. Usually we open an account, then we are in the admin section, well that was given password with banks for confirmation, “explained the Head of Public Relations Division of the National Police, Inspector General Argo Yuwono, to reporters at the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, Monday (5/10/2020).
Argo continued the perpetrator then contacted the victim. They pretend to be bank employees who want to update account or account owner data.
“This is, then it seems as if the perpetrator is from the bank, then he can update the system etc. So he calls the bank customer, asking password on the grounds that identity data are being repaired, systems are being repaired and others, “explained Argo.
After obtaining the OTP, the syndicate then freely transfers the balance of the victim to the holding account password, he can see the balance and he can transfer it to a holding account, “continued Argo.
Argo then explained the crime revenue sharing system in this syndicate. “The captain” got half of the proceeds from the crime and the rest was distributed to the men who helped the action.
“So the distribution is every time he gets money, every time he gets take, the captain gets 50 percent, “said Argo.
Previously it was reported that the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police arrested a syndicate of breaking into bank and Grab customer accounts with a total loss suffered by the victim of IDR 21 billion.
“The Grab (loss) is Rp 2 billion. The rest (loss) is banking,” said Argo previously.
Argo said that the number of perpetrators who were successfully secured was 10 people. Perpetrators with initials AY (19), YL (25), GS (26), K (53), J (50) and RP (18), KS (28), CP (27), PA (38), and AH (34).
The perpetrators were arrested in Tulung Selapan District, Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI), South Sumatra, on Saturday (3/10).
